And So Begins the ACID JAZZ SAGA

Like painting with a saxophone, no?
So much to say, so little time there always seems to be. That being said, I'll do my best to make this brief. So, long story short, I like acid jazz. I envisioned putting together a mix like this long before I ever flipped or scratched one disc. I have been working on it for so long, I unfortunately could not fit everything I had in a practical and efficient manner. So tune in in the near future for another installment in this, what I would like to think of as a, saga. Why? Maybe I have a nostalgic connection with DBZ. Maybe I'm just cool like that. In the end, we all like ACID JAZZ. Peace and progress my friends. And a Happy Thanksgiving all around!

THOUSAND KNIVES MIX

Episode 007 I've dubbed the THOUSAND KNIVES MIX. That is the name of the recurring piano piece in the middle composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. I wanted this mix to have a name because the mix of songs weaves a story, a very personal story, of the many recurring themes in the vicious cycle that I see in my life and the lives of others I know well. It is meant to be neither happy nor sad, it is simply meant to be. See if you can guess the story. Til next week...

006, Piconica, and Songs For Your Head. Also Facebook

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I got episode 006 out yesterday. It's actually a mix I had done a while back, closer to the beginning of the year. I think I had originally not used it because I could not find the proper song to go at the beginning to start off the mix. I guess I technically never did. What I ended up doing was a little bit of jamming (as I want to do :) ). For the first track, I used some random sample hip-hop beat and recorded over it a little piece on the Android app Piconica. This app, created  can be found on the Google Play Store for free and is touted as a retro video game keyboard. There's a lot of these kind of apps out there, but this one is one of the more simplistic and has the best sound in my opinion. We all know and love that sound too. That distinctive "tingy" beep of the 8 bit and 16 bit generations, God don't you just love it?! I love jamming and I love video games, especially retro ones, even though i haven't played them in years. I have messed around with chiptuning in the past. It's a fairly versatile medium. I do happen to have some trackers and 8 bit sequencers on hand, so who knows, possible future side project maybe? There are so options out, who knows what the future holds. Do let me know what your thoughts on the idea are though. Could be kick-ass. I went ahead and put a link to the .apk file for Piconica at the bottom of this post, just in case anybody wants to mess around with it and do some jamming of their own! (P.S. it's the picture)

On a slightly different note, I wanted to start doing something like a song of the day type of thing. I don't know about you guys, but when a particular song gets stuck in my head it gets stuck HARD. Maybe that happens to you, maybe you're not that susceptible to it, either way, you cannot deny that music sometimes speaks a language you can't speak but need to hear. It transcends so many things, and there are so many things to break through nowadays, if a bit gets stuck on loop in your brain, there must be a pretty good reason why. The only way for me to remove the song from my head is to listen to it, usually on repeat, for varying amounts of time. So I figure why not bring everybody into that world? So every day I'm going to bring you either "a" song or "the" song that is playing in my head, and believe me, my brain is an archive on shuffle, you never know what you might hear! I'll be posting that here and on the twitter feed. I will also be posting it on Facebook as well, that is whenever they decide to give me access again. They locked me out of all of the pages and asked me to confirm my identity because it looked like my name was fake. Absolutely ridiculous, I would never knowingly misrepresent myself on the internet (lol). All sarcasm aside, I did use my legal name so it is unwarranted and annoying. I do understand what they have to police though. I would still be understanding, but they refuse to get back to me or let me onto the site even though I sent them the proper verification. If you haven't noticed anything on the Facebook pages, that is why. I really hope they resolve whatever issue they are having soon. Did I mention I'm not a big Facebook fan? Anyway, you'll be able to find the little section I'm entitling Songs For Your Head in the sidebar to the right beginning today. Today we start off with a nice house tune with a little bit of a swing vibe "Sometimes the Going Gets A Little Tough" by Finn because sometimes, the going DOES get a little tough! This one should make you feel good.

FROM BEHIND the BUREAU Episode 005!!!

For episode 005, I bring you the start of what I like to call, FROM OUTSIDE the SOURCE. Now don't worry, FBtB isn't slowing down any time soon, what we've got today is still a mix-mastering that'll master your mix fix, but with this one, I'm only supplying the car, not driving it or help guide it in any way. Think full length guest mix. Think featured set. Whatever you think about, just imagine something completely devoid of me. I know, I know, it's a scary thought. But depending on who ends up in the driver seat, we can all still make it there in one piece! We'll have to trudge through this carefully. Don't worry, twas my intention.

If you remember, I had said that episode 003 was a "slight" collaboration between DJ Wraith and I. Well today, I have DJ Wraith himself manning the wheel and boy is this one a doozy. I'll spare you the dramatic details but let me just say, we are lucky to have this mix. Some things you really do just have to be there for.

I really hope you guys enjoy this one. Let me know if the idea of guests scares you or not! Maybe we can make this a thing from time to time! That's the great thing about music, endless possibilities! ✌ #FBtB

Are You Down With the 'Revolution'?

Hey, so I don't know about you guys but I am not too big on radio. Not the concept of radio, but regular FM radio. It's too repetitive and has way too many commercials. NPR is always good I suppose. :) But I listen to satellite myself, SiriusXM all the way! Whatever you are into, more power to ya, but I say if you ever have the chance, check out satellite radio. I like it because it has a greater variety and is completely devoid of advertising and commercials. A lot of the newer genres and artists I have been introduced recently have come from satellite. To put it lightly, it broadens your horizons. One of the stations that I have always listened to fairly regularly was channel 52 Electric Area. They have always played a nice mix of new and old electronic and house music along with a little more of the heavier, more underground sound of genres like EDM, dubstep, trap, and trance. This is certainly up my alley, but does not appeal to everyone I realize.

Recently though, channel 52 has undergone a slight transformation. It has turned from Electric Area into Diplo's Revolution Radio. Now Diplo, for those of you that know, is one of the leading music producers in the industry and has been for a long time. He has certainly established himself as a guiding force in the electronic music scene and as a seeker of perfected sound on a global scale. The channel has a fairly worldly vibe to it, which is not too far off from what Electric Area put out. The channel overall has mostly the same feel to it as it has always had under the moniker of Electric Area, most people would probably be hard pressed to note too much of a mood shift for the channel and the genre focus remains practically the same. There is a slight difference in the tone and flow of the channel though if you ask me. Slightly more of a focus on trap. Which is not a bad thing for sure. Just something worth pointing out. I'm certainly still gonna listen to the channel. Diplo never done me no wrong! And even if he had, its still Electric Area through and through as far as I'm concerned!

Hopefully I get my wish. I have been looking for the proper platform to launch a freeform radio station for a while now, and I am pushing right now for this to be it. So maybe someday my dreams will come to fruition and you will see this site inherit its own internet radio station. Who knows? Only time will tell.

If you guys wanna check out the channel you can do so here or read about it on Wikipedia. And remember, episode 002 of From Behind the Bureau drops tomorrow! Til then, stay frosty.
